It might not be Christmas just yet – but I got my first taste of Christmas through an amazing experience at the gorgeous independent restaurant & bar, No1 Duke Street located in the beautiful Richmond neighbourhood! I was invited to have a peak preview of their delicious new hand crafted Christmas menu for this season – available from the 28th of November!
The table was beautifully laid in their private room on the first floor with stunning centrepieces that decorated a heavy, solid wooden table. A sea of candles created a warm and cosy atmosphere. I was greeted with a nice glass of prosecco with an edible hibiscus flower at the bottom of the glass which added a little bit of sparkle & luxury as well as a lovely fruity note.
While we sipped on our prosecco we were served all of the starters from the Christmas menu as little appetisers to be able to have a taste of all of them. This included Cannelloni Bean Soup, Bresaola, Field Mushroom Carpaccio and my absolute favourite Smoked Salmon Roulade with Pea Shoots, Horseradish & Rye Bread (see picture above).
Next we were served the mains as litte portions – I could just always eat like that, it is the most incredible thing to enjoy all of the different flavours and who did not once dream about ordering every single item on the menu in a restaurant? Or is that just me 🙂 Norfolk Turkey was served in a sharing tray with roast vegetables as well as cranberry & bread sauce on the side. In a little pot came a Spelt, Buckwheat & Wild Mushroom Risotto which was absolutely delicious! (picture above)
Beautifully presented was the Salmon en Croute with Pea Shoots & Sorrel Sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked, moist in the center with a gorgeous crispy outside.
Another wonderful Christmas main course was the Beer Braised Brisket of Beef with Sweet Potato mash – beautifully tender it was a joy to eat.
The highlight, of course, was to have all of the desserts served on one single plate! It included Sticky Toffee Date Pudding, No 11 Christmas Eton Mess – served in a glass, Lemon Posset and an absolutely delicious Black Forest Brownie!
To round up a joyful evening we had a glass of hot Irish coffee that I could imagine would be lovely to order on a cold winters day and enjoy on their heated outside space (that I have walked by earlier, on my way in). Actually, I managed to end up in the pub next door, called Duke and for all those people with the same funny sense of direction out there you first need to go through the round arch, pass the outdoor seating area and then enter through a glass door almost at the end of the patio area 🙂
Once you enter No1 Duke Street you are greeted with a beautiful interior design as well as a generous amount of space that you would not expect from the outside. If you are looking for a beautiful location to enjoy a delicious Christmas Menu this is certainly a place to consider! You won’t be disappointed!
