Nobu Berkeley Street, situated in the heart of Mayfair, is one of London’s most fashionable Michelin starred restaurants and represents Japanese cuisine at its finest! The tastefully designed venue stretches over two floors with a large downstairs bar and dining upstairs. It is the younger of the two Nobu restaurants in London. The first to open in the capital was on Park Lane in 2000 which was also the first European venture for the celebrated Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa.
Nobu’s success story stared in Beverly Hills where Nobu Matsuhisa ran the popular Japanese fusion restaurant ‘Matsuhisa’. While enjoying a meal there, one of his regular customers, no one less than Robert de Niro, had the genius idea to open a restaurant in New York in partnership with him. The rest is history which resulted not only with an opening in New York in 1994 but an international expansion with more than 25 restaurants worldwide including cities like Tokyo, Moscow and Miami.
We visited the restaurant for a birthday celebration which resulted in me not taking too many pictures as I did no want to disturb a lovely evening with the clicks of my camera. The menu was rather overwhelming, so in order to get a taste of everything we asked the waiter to serve us a combination of Nobu’s finest dishes.
The meal included Nobu’s signature dish ‘black cod with miso’ a bucket list dish, lobster tacos, yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño (one of my favourites that evening), Tuna Sashimi Salad with Matsuhisa Dressing, one of their daily specials, pan fried scallops with jalapeño (first image above), shrimp tempura (2nd image above), miso asparagus, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna, soft shell crab roll as well as the Japanese famous wagyu beef followed by cute little desserts.
Nobu Matsuhisa and executive chef Mark Edwards have created incredibly tasty and exciting dishes for this venue. Every dish was beautifully arranged and prepared. An absolute delight and the best Japanese meal that I have eaten outside of Japan!

Being incredibly successful as a restaurant chain, Nobu has also started to venture into the hotel trade – the first Nobu Hotel in Europe is soon about to open in Shoreditch, East London (est. 2017) and of course it will have a restaurant on site as well.
