Located on the first floor of the Carlton Hotel, Lumina overlooks the beautiful Mediterranean shoreline, visible through the floor to ceiling windows! The bistro style restaurant with its fun and exciting ambience was a welcome setting during our stay at the Carlton. Tel Aviv is gaining international recognition for its vibrant food scene, not surprising with high quality restaurants like Lumina. It is the second restaurant by celebrity chef Meir Adoni who refers to his food as “an unconventional culinary adventure, where East meets West and past meets future”.
We enjoyed a carafe of white wine – Sauvignong Blanc 14, Catit Collection – while we watched the sun go down over Tel Aviv, a city boasting with sunny weather, long beaches and friendly, laid back people.

For starters I had kohlrabi filled with grouper – the little parcels almost looked like stuffed ravioli, beautifully presented with edible flowers. The dish was nice and light on a tangy citrusy sauce.
My husband ordered the beetroot and veal salad – the earthy component of the beetroot worked so well with the nice and tender veal.
For the main course we both ordered the slow cooked lamb accompanied by a glass of red wine – it was true perfection. Cleverly served on top of a copy of The Palestine Post edition from Sunday, May 16th 1948 with the main title ‘State of Israel is Born’ I could not resist to ask for an unused copy to be able to read the actual article – Israel has such a rich history and it was a fascinating opportunity to read about such an important historic event from the perspective and viewpoint at the time.
For dessert we had an extra dose of chocolate, accompanied by a fried banana, sorbet and ice cream.
It happened to be the restaurant’s Birthday where all guests received a plate with complimentary pistachio ice cream and an espresso.
It was a truly delightful opportunity to enjoy innovative Jewish food in a laid back and relaxed setting with attentive and friendly service. And one of the best things about eating in a restaurant located in the same building as your hotel is the short journey to and from the restaurant 🙂
