Happy Fish, located on the beautiful Mamilla Avenue, is a Mediterranean inspired fish restaurant in the heart of Jerusalem. Part of the Mamilla Hotel, it offers informal and relaxed dining in its indoor as well as outdoor premises. The charming terrace is beautifully decorated with Mediterranean plant pots, comfortable wicker chairs and tiled tables, some of which overlook the attractive shopping avenue underneath.

The contemporary theme continues indoors with pastel coloured tiles on the walls, small plant pots and checkered napkins. The restaurant is spacious with large tables, ideal for larger groups as well as families – smaller tables are in a separate area which makes for a more intimate dining experience. Hotel guests can access the restaurant directly from the hotel rather than Mamilla Avenue – the entry point for other guests.
It was a hot day in Jerusalem when I visited so I decided to sit inside instead of the beautiful outside terrace. To cool down I ordered a chilled glass of Nahal Ha’Pirim from Gush Etzion Winery which I enjoyed the previous day at Mamilla’s Rooftop Terrace Restaurant – another excellent restaurant at Mamilla Hotel!
I have started the meal with Meza and house breads – the delicious selection of small plates included tomato salsa, eggs and caramelised onions, Ekar – fish eggs, cumin and onions, cucumber salad, cabbage and mild tahini which reminded me of the tahini mill I have visited on my guided tour through the Old City of Jerusalem.

The Salmon Tartar that followed was beautifully prepared, nice and fresh and a real delight to eat.
For mains I had the Grouper which was nice and crips on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. A lovely dish for a summers day!
For dessert I opted for the Pecan Tart which came in the form of a mousse/cream topped with crunchy pecan nuts and different layers of delight.
