Lowndes Bar and Kitchen at the Jumeirah, Belgravia has teamed up with Belgravia Books to create ‘Book and Brunch Sundays’. Each month a new novel is selected by Belgravia Books to accompany Lowndes’ new brunch menu with this month title fittingly set in the same beautiful London location as the restaurant and bookstore.
Belgravia with its cobbled streets, exclusive boutique shops, pretty squares and white stucco houses is home to some of the most expensive properties in the world. Set in 1840s Belgravia the book is a modern classic about a secret that unravels behind the prestigious doors of this glamorous neighbourhood. I have only read the first few pages which made me want to read on, it has already found its way to my bedside table and I am looking forward to continuing reading it. The author, Julian Fellowes is also the creator of Downton Abbey and I can imagine that fans are going to enjoy it.
Lowndes Book and Brunch set menu comes with bottomless tea or coffee, fresh juice and the choice of one dish from the ‘Shorth Stories’ shortlist and one from the ‘Great Works’ shortlist with the option to have it with or without the book of the month. I opted for the blueberry oat meal porridge from the ‘Short Stories’, followed by the very indulging blueberry buttermilk pancakes with crispy bacon and whipped cream from the ‘Great Works’ section of the menu.
My husband had a combination of fresh fruit and granola from the ‘Short Stories’, he is on a gluten-free diet which can make choosing a little bit more challenging. It was therefore really nice that the staff has gone the extra mile to make sure to remove the grains from the granola. From the ‘Great Works’ he chose eggs benedict which came with gluten free bread and, of course, we could not resist to have bubbles with our Sunday brunch as well. We have both preferred the sweet over the savory options of the menu with the blueberry pancakes being my favourite. The service at Lowndes was fantastic throughout our brunch experience where we were looked after royally by our waitress Monika and our waiter Silviu.
London has many great independent bookstores and I think ‘Book and Brunch Sundays’ are a wonderful way to support a local bookstore. It is nowadays so easy to order books online and I myself are often tempted to do so but of course, it does not come with the same experience of browsing books in a beautiful store nor the knowledgeable staff and their recommendations. I would have loved to stop by Belgravia Books after brunch but since it is closed on Sundays, it is a nice excuse to come back another time to beautiful Belgravia.
Book and Brunch Sunday’s at Lowndes is served between 12 pm and 5 pm. The set menu is £30 including the book of the month and £25 without. Bottomless Bubbles can be added for another £15. It is also possible to order the items on the menu a la carte.
